Kavarna (12 000 inhabitants) is 65 km. from Varna on the International road E87. The city has a yacht port, a spacious beach and resort along the bay. Rocks and the shore is extremely picturesque. The town Bizone was founded on the plateau of the Cape Chirakman in V century BC by Greek colonists. In I century BC earthquake swallowed the ancient city at sea. Romans called it recovered, the settlement and the port was revived. In VII century the Slavs create Karvuna settlement. Dobrudja and the Sea Museum is located in a restored old Turkish bath to the XV century. Cape Kaliakra is situated 12 km eastern of Kavarna and 60 km from Varna. The waterside is steep with vertical rocks, which are 70 m to the sea. The name of the place mean ďBloody capeĒ, because of the red colour of the rocks. According the legend the blood of the protection of the stronghold, which is built here IV century BC, it has soaked and thatís why they are red.

There are a lot of legend which are about cape Kaliakra. The most famous is about 40 Bulgarian girls which flatten their hairs and jump into the sea, because the Turkish gave chase to their.The Gate of the 40 young girl Memory is about their memory. Other legend is about St. Nikolas who is the protector of the sailor. He run from the Turkish too. The land under his legs open and thatís way the cape form, but without a use. In the end of the cape there is a small chapel which symbolize his tomb.

Here has had Greek stronghold, which has become later Roman and Byzantine holding. This is the last town in Bulgaria which has been holding from the Turkish. Later they create Moslem spiritual centre. There are a lot of relics from this town which are in a small museum in one of the cave. Cape Kaliakra is a Natural Reserve.

Yailata is a National Archaeological Reserve. Is a seaside terrace, separated from plateau with a 50-60 meter cliffs. Unique place that combines archaeological remains with natural beauty. There are cave village with over 100 caves in V century BC have been preserved from antiquity sanctuary, sacrificial stones, wineries, rock tombs, preserved and partially restored castle from V-VI century BC. and others. In the Middle Ages, the caves were used as a monastery.
