Sapareva Banya is 75 km. southwest of Sofia and 55 km. from the regional center Kyustendil, at the northern foot of Rila. This is a geyser with a water temperature of 103oC. The first inhabitants of the village were the Thracians. The oldest known name of the city is Germanea connected, with the Thracian god Germann. During the III century, Germanea is one of the important centers of the Roman province of Dacia.

The mountainous terrain and steep slopes of the Northwestern Rila, Seven Rilas Lakes, pristine natural surroundings create excellent conditions for mountain tourism. From Sapareva Banya leave some of the most popular tourist Rials routes. Marked trails lead to waterfalls of the River Bistrica, mountain huts, cascade of seven waterfalls, which penultimate is 39 meters high.

The town has a Byzantine church of St. Nicholas (XIII century), surrounded by antiques from the Roman town. Sanatorium-resort complex is a few steps from Geyser. Resorts and medical institutions specializing in treatment of diseases of the locomotor system, peripheral nervous system, lesions of the central nervous system, gynecological diseases, acute and chronic poisoning, skin diseases, upper respiratory tract and others.

Hotels in Sapareva Banya

Mountain resort Panichishte is located in the northwestern part of Rila, the beautiful and virgin coniferous forests of 1350-1450 m above sea level. Its bordered by the National park Rila. There are hotels, holiday homes, cottages and cabins, several ski runs. It is proposed ski equipment rental and training by qualified instructors. Panichishte is a starting point for many Rila mountain huts. The region is also located at the lowest glacier lake in Rila - Suhoto (Dry Lake). Football, volleyball, basketball and other teams can take advantage of the ideal sites in the training base, tennis players and swimmers can use the swimming pools and tennis courts.

Resort Maljovitza is located 40 km from Borovets in the north-west Rila. The nature is here lovely. There are several runs and very close bars. Maljovitza is known place for alpinism and tourism. Difficult itineraries for a clambering are much of the highest peaks to Rila, alpine walls here. One from the most beautiful mountainous pools of the balkans enormous, it is close in the resort. Maljovitza is a criterial point about a lot of tourist route to Northwest Rila: to the hut "Ivan Vazov", Rila’s monastery, Strashno ezero (The danger lake) and the 7th Rila’s lakes. Maljovitza peak can be brought through the mark road.

The waterfall Skakavica is in picturesque gorge in river Skakavica of nearly 750-m highland. This is the highest waterfall of Rila, the head of water is 70 m. Close to the waterfall there are karsts springs.
