The Strandja Mountain is in south-eastern Bulgaria and Turkish, between Black sea and the Thracian lowland from Burgas to Instanbul. The highest peak in Bulgarian area is Gradishte (710 m). The climate is Mediterranean under the influence of Black sea. The relief is low-mountain with many round peaks and ridges and itís cut off many ravines. The two main rivers in the park are Veleka and Rezvaya.
Veleka is long 147 km and it springs from a Turkish area. It goes in Bulgaria through a beautiful rock gorge. The river here is with rock bottom and lots of swift currents. Then the river accept many feeders and it becomes very wide. It flows in Black sea by a beautiful estuar, which pours on the riverside wood, which gives a typical dense forest character.
Rezvaya is not very good known by the people. It is in the border zone. The river springs of the Turkish territory and flows in Black sea in rock coasts, afforested with hundred year old woods. The mouth in river Rezevo is a beauty neander.
Nature park "Strandja" is the biggest protect territory in a country of Bulgaria and itís one of the first places around the Europe reserves of bio-variable. Here are around 50% of the representatives of the Bulgarian flora and fauna with a lot of ones which are in the Red book thin and danger kinds. There are 5 reserves, 12 protect places, architect reserve in the territory of the park. There are many karsts springs in the inside Strandja. The western part of the park is with wide rock karsts area. Big massive and slopes are formed by strong rock formations, rock gorges and precipices. The caves are very much. The relief of Strandja is variable and attractive.
Folklore reserve Bulgari, a lot of architect, culture and archeological memories. The millenary human civilization has left original culture memories: dolmen, Thracian sanctuary and altars, funeral hills and hills necropolis, many chapels and saint springs. The rich song folklore, the original rituals and customs of the local population are saved in them pagan elementary from the biggest ancient, as a fire-dancing into embers in the village Bulgari and Brodilovo.
Malko Tarnovo is found 75 km. from Burgas, 55 km away from Tsarevo. Border with Turkey is only 10 km, a metropolis of Istanbul is 300 km. The municipality is wholly within the Natural Park Strandja. In place of the city there was a Thracian settlement from which the dolmens and other mound necropolis, was located here and the Roman roadside station. The city has occurred at the end of XVI century, around the spring Big Vries. Get to marble, from which even used the palace in Istanbul, in dozens of shops flourishing trade.
In XIX century Malko Turnovo was beautiful and prosperous town of about 8000 inhabitants. After the Berlin treaty remained within the Ottoman Empire. During the Ilinden Uprising (1903) here is the county revolutionary committee. After a brutal rout around 5000 people fled to Bulgaria. The city rejected the foreign authorities in 1913
The Historical museum is 5 houses, typical representatives of Renaissance architecture. The Archaeological section presents marble slabs, columns with Greek inscriptions, utensils and two gable of Thracian domed tomb. Individual exposure is an icon of local craftsmen, and the ethnographic collection are authentic items from the region. Assumption Church is on the foundations of an old church in 1754. By the Holy Trinity Catholic Church were carried over the icons, the altar and church plate from Adrianople Church of St. Cyril and Methodius.
Bryshlyan village is an architectural reserve and ensembles with houses typical of the architecture Strandjan of 18 and 19 century. Of these, 9 are architectural monuments of national importance, 22 are ensembles. Located 11 km northwest of Malko Tarnovo and 64 km from Bourgas.
Petrova Niva historical place is near the village Stoilovo, 20 km from Malko Tarnovo. Nomination in place of the monument is praise the courage of the Bulgarians during the Ilinden Uprising in 1903.
